HISTORY OF THE RISE & FLY FUN
CLUB
The Rise & Fly Club is a bid whist club
founded in 1980. Our motto is “ To engage in friendly competitive
bid whist in a congenial atmosphere.” Our
membership capacity is
24, we currently have 20 active members. We still have one
full-time and two associate members who are a part of the founding
group. Over 75% have been members for 10 years or more. Most
members reside in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, but we
have one associate member
in Austin, Texas and one in Chicago,
IL.
Meeting are usually on Saturdays with the date set by the
host/hostess. Playing partnerships are determined by a random
drawing in each of the eleven playing
months. Winning trophies
and patches are awarded in September, the designated business meeting
month. In addition to presenting trophies, we elect
officers,
appoint committees, set meeting rotations, develop our event
calendar and conduct other club business.
Some of our events are
trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe; cruises, camping trips, snow
weekends each March to Lake Arrowhead, a weekend houseboat trip on Lake
Mead or Lake Mojave, the Long Beach and Monterey Blues Festivals,
bowling, roller skating , a formal dance for the club’s 10th year
anniversary and we just like hanging out together on different
occasions.
