Black Lives Matter Mural of Cambridge: This street mural was painted in June of 2020 in celebration of Juneteenth. Many people came together for the completion of this project under the supervision of project manager Shelton Hawkins. Hawkins noted that the mural wasn’t liked by everyone but said “At the end of the day, change only starts with people that are willing to make a change-us standing up together and coming out here is the first step.” This mural is located on race street in Cambridge Maryland. What Black Lives Matter means: From dictionary.com Black Lives Matter is defined as “a political and social movement originating among African Americans, emphasizing basic human rights and racial equality for Black people and campaigning against various forms of racism.” In response to Black Lives Matter people started a counter movement saying that “All Lives Matter”, but saying that Black Lives Matter is not to say that black people are superior. It is only a reminder to those who may have forgotten or viewed us as inferior that we are all people and our lives matter just as they do. We say this to spark changes in the institutions and systems that are inherently racist, and discriminate against or target black people.
