“What I see” is a painting I made in reflection to the beautiful paintings I studied for my report. I wanted to take what I learned from the artists who created the other murals and create my own. This was particularly challenging for me because I am not gifted in the visual arts, but for this I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone. I wanted to convey the emotions I felt after seeing the two completely different responses to protesters by our government and police forces. On the left I painted a peaceful protest for the rights and respect of black people. As portrayed in my painting they were met with police and the National guard when they and their allies were fighting for basic human rights. On the right I portrayed the recent events of the storming of the capitol in protest of the 2020/21 elections. These people broke into the capitol, damaged property, and incited fear in order to persuade the government to change the results of the 2020 presidential election. By the conclusion of this project I hoped to learn how to create a piece of art reflective of how I felt when I or my people experience discrimination or injustices, please leave me a review and let me know how you think I did in the execution of my goal!
