DEADLY TRUMPS BID
WHIST CLUB OF HOUSTON, TEXAS 1. To eliminate stagnancy with playing with the same partner, and also to benefit in tournament play, Deadly Trumps members will pull names every 6 months to play with a different partner. In the event there is an odd number of members, the last member to pull will play with our permanent sub throughout the six month period. 2. Dues are $15.00 per month - due before you play each month. Dues will be taken up for 15 minutes after the club meeting has adjourned and before club play. NOTE: If member misses two consecutive months, he/she will automatically be placed on an "inactive list" and dues will not continue to accrue. Once the member returns, dues will be owed only for the two months missed, as well as for the month that the member returns. A member in arrears will not be allowed to play until their dues are made current. 3. The Treasurer has opened a bank account in the name of Deadly Trumps. 4. The Treasurer's books may be looked at by all club members, at any time, upon request. 5. The club will meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month unless another Saturday is agreed upon by a majority of the members. Club meetings will begin promptly at 6:15 and items taking more time than normal will be tabled until the next month's meeting. 6. Lottery tickets, not in excess of $1.00, are purchased and given as gifts to each member who has a birthday during each meeting month. Cakes and birthday cards are purchased from dues paid. 7. Everyone writes down his/her name along with 3 items of choice during the November meeting. Names are pulled anonymously from a hat, with a limit of $20.00 put on the gift. The Club Christmas Party is held during the December meeting. 8. After the November meeting, members are asked to select which month they will host the club meetings with regard to refreshments (i.e., food, chips, ice, cups, plates, plasticware, napkins, etc.). This does not include beverages. 9. If for some reason you cannot host for the month you selected, it will be your responsibility to make other arrangements such as switching months with another member, etc. Those who were unavailable to select a month, due to being away during the holiday season, etc., will be called upon first to host in that members' place. Please notify one of the officers, prior to our meeting date that a change has been made, especially if arrangements could not be made. 10. Every team is played twice (after we play every team, we just play for fun!!!) 11. Personalized shirts, with the club logo, are purchased by each club member. Initial screening has been paid from the club dues. Shirts are to be worn at all club meetings, DT tournaments as well as any event(s) where fees have been paid for by the club. A penalty fee of $3.00 will be imposed for each violation of this rule. 12. Members who wish to participate in tournaments are encouraged to do so. Deadly Trumps will limit the number of times a member can be sponsored. Only one sponsorship, per member, per year. The tournament registration fee, (for up to $50.00 per member and up to 4 members per quarter), will be paid for by Deadly Trumps. This is a smoking club.

GAME RULES 1. The game is 7-in, 7-out. 2. First jack deals at the beginning of each new game. 3. First four and last four cards must be dealt in order. Last card never goes in the kitty. 4. No talking the board. Officers will determine whether this rule has been broken. If so, the team that has broken the rule will not only forfeit the game which automatically gives point to the opposing team, but each player will be penalized one additional point as well. If the forfeiting team has not received points that night, points will be deducted from that teams' total points, as recorded by the Secretary. 5. Board is 4. 6. There is a 6 card kitty. High & low jokers are marked accordingly. 7. Low bid takes out a high bid; a no bid takes out everything; the next number takes out a no bid. 8. Jokers are thrown off in a No bid after the suit being played has been exhausted from your hand. 9. No sporting the kitty. 10. A "Boston" is an automatic win if the score is even board or there is a positive score noted. Boston = 7. If there is a negative score when the "Boston" is made, then the negative score would be deducted from 7. 11. A "No Trump" is an automatic win if the score is even board or there is a positive score noted. A "No Trump" is an automatic loss if the score is even board, or a negative score. If there is a positive score when a "No" is played and it is set, the positive score is deducted from the double score of a "No Trump", i.e., 4=8, 5 =10, 6=12, etc. In the unlikely event that a joker is the first card played in the last hand of a No bid, then the following card played becomes the lead suit for that book. 12. In both of the above referenced rules, there will be no additional books counted, i.e., if you bid a 4 and make 6, your score would be a 4. The exception would be for the "Boston" rule. Recording of Bostons would continue along with the issuance of trophies twice a year. 13. A renege counts as three books. 14. We are playing by a point system. Points are individual. Every win counts as a point and at the end of each game, one designated member from each team is responsible for relaying their teams total points to the Scorekeeper. Only points recorded by the Scorekeeper are official. 15. Please be courteous enough to give people "their space". There will be no hovering/standing over or near players engaged in a game by those on the sidelines. 16. CHEAT ALERT: No signaling, playing like you're having a "heart" attack, barking and patting your feet like a dog to indicate "puppy feet", scratching of the nose with the finger that has the big "diamond" on it….neither these or any other indications of cheating will be tolerated. 17. Effective January 1, 2003, if a member feels that another member has cheated, the following procedure will take place: a. The person making the allegation must report the incident to an officer as soon as possible; b. Officers will then discuss the allegation amongst themselves and set a mutually convenient time (separate from the regular club meeting date) to meet with the member(s) making the allegation and the member(s) accused of cheating; c. Both parties will present their sides to the officers at such meeting; and d. The officers will decide what appropriate action (if any) needs to be taken within one week of the meeting. ("appropriate action" shall include, but not be limited to, reprimand, probation, or expulsion from the club.) 18. If possible, an officer shall be notified 4-5 days in advance if a member has to cancel. When notifying an officer, if it is determined that there will be another member without a partner for that same night, those two members will play together and any points won will be retained by those two members. In this instance only, the absent member receives no points. But if it is determined that there is NOT another member without a partner for that same night, you are encouraged to find a sub* for the absent member. *A sub is only there for the privilege of playing bid whist and dues for the absent member will not be paid by the sub. 19. In order for points to be awarded properly, it must be relayed to an officer, prior to the commencement of the games, that a sub has been determined to play in the place of the absent member. 20. Any questioning, supposition, conjecture, suggestions, hunching, nudging, grunting, whispering, smirking, eyes rolling all up in the air or anything else considered not only offensive, but distracting to those actually engaged in play, regarding their bid during or after the hand has been played by those not in the game, is unwarranted, HIGHLY UNACCEPTABLE and will not be tolerated. NOTE: Every six months (January and July), trophies will be awarded to individuals with the most points for 1st and 2nd place. Individual trophies will also be awarded to the person(s) with the most bostons made during that six month period!! If there's a tie, there will be trophies awarded to each person in the tie. 21. Non-playing guests are encouraged to attend and can play once club obligations are met. 22. Smoking is permitted.
